এই হলটি মাওলানা ভাসানী বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অন্যতম প্রধান ছাত্রাবাস কেন্দ্র হিসেবে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে পরিচিত। পূর্বে এটি বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান হল নামে পরিচিত ছিল, পরে ত্যাগ, সাহস এবং শিক্ষার্থীনির্ভর মূল্যবোধকে সম্মান জানাতে এর নাম পরিবর্তন করে শহীদ ওসমান হাদি হল রাখা হয়।
